Experience
I have seven years of teaching experience with a variety of different age groups including adults, middle school-, and elementary-aged students. While living and working in Spain for two years, I taught primarily groups of elementary school students and university-level private classes. I most enjoy small groups and one-on-one time with students. I am fluent in Spanish and use it daily with friends and in my job as a nonprofit administrator. Unlike native Spanish speakers, I learned Spanish as a second language and am very familiar with the unique challenges that native English speakers face when learning Spanish (and how to overcome them). This first-hand experience is invaluable in helping my Spanish students gain a deeper understanding of Spanish grammar and usage. Knowing Spanish is an incredible key that unlocks a whole new world of art, culture, food, music, and ideas. I have been fortunate enough to live in both Latin America and Spain, and I try to incorporate aspects of Spanish and Latin American art and culture into my lessons whenever possible. In every lesson, I strive to help my students see how exciting and advantageous it is to be able to speak, read, and understand Spanish. My priority in working with students is crafting lessons that work best with a student's goals, personality, and learning style. Each of my students have unique gifts and interests, and I love getting know them and incorporating them into our lessons. Knowing a second language is such a great source of joy and discovery for me. My greatest hope is to share that with my students. My hourly rate can is negotiable depending on the location and frequency of tutoring sessions. I welcome any questions or ideas you have about working with your child. Hobbies
I love speaking Spanish and working with the Latino community of North Carolina. I am on the board of ISLA, a nonprofit Spanish heritage language program in Chapel Hill, and love every moment I get to spend with our Latino students and their families. I also play piano and sing in a few different bands around Chapel Hill and Durham. Music played a huge role in my process of learning Spanish and I truly believe that it's the best way to make it all stick! I love being outside, being active, and being a part of the Carrboro-Chapel Hill community.
