Claudine M.
Private tutor in Chapel Hill, NC
Education
I received a MS in Physics (atomic physics concentration) in 1998 from East Carolina University.
Experience
I have been teaching physics and astronomy since the '90s--the age of grunge & flannel, The Spice Girls, Buffy, & Seinfeld. That's a long time! Who even remembers that stuff?! I am currently in my 11th year as a professor in the Department of Physics at Elon University. I received my MS in Physics in 1998 from East Carolina University. At Elon, I teach introduction to astronomy and college physics. Prior to my experience at Elon, I worked for 6 years with NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC conducting scientific peer review of physical science research proposals. I have held either full time or adjunct positions at Marymount University, Northern Virginia Community College, University of South Alabama, and East Carolina University. I think learning should be fun. That doesn't mean we can avoid hard work, though! Physics is hard, but it's worth all of the effort you put into it. It's cool and empowering to understand how your microwave works, really know why the sky is blue, and comprehend the recent epic discovery of gravity waves!

Hobbies
While I am physicist, I am also really into the arts, too. During a typical week you might find me listening to music & discovering new bands, visiting an art museum, reading fantastic poetry, helping my 11 year old daughter with her homework, star gazing and viewing the cosmos in my telescope, running, or trying to inspire young women and girls to get into STEM fields. I am also a creative writer. I primarily write flash fiction and poetry. I love combining science into my poetry--it's kind of like astro-poetry!
